I did similar to my phone, and got no signal or texts when I unwrapped it and turned it back on a few hours later. Probably the only difference was I wrapped it in a layer of paper towels & some plastic wrap first, before the several layers of tin foil. This was partially because I did not want a conductive material (foil) directly touching my phone, and partially because the tin foil was from dinner the night before and still had some roast chicken grease on it 🙂
