I wasn’t in the allopathic world during the early ’80s, so didn’t experience that gradual takeover. HMO doctor lists have to do with insurance, I presume. I didn’t have insurance either, just trusted myself to figure things out in other ways if something untoward happened. Either I was lucky, or I was wise; some of both, perhaps. What’s so interesting to me is that my attitude no longer feels rogue, given the two-year exposure of the politics of allopathic medicine, not to mention its sometimes death-dealing ways. Seems to me that the main takeaway from the covid nonsense is trust your own inner knowing. Above all, do not assume that outside authorities know what’s best for you, in ANY area of life. Which is why I never went to a counselor either, preferring, when I needed counsel, to consult with my journal, my dreams, and co-processing with certain close female friends.

I remember when HMOs got introduced in the early 80s and patients were not able to easily access their usual (independent) doctors. You had to see whatever HMO doctor you were assigned. I had some bad experiences with that and started paying out of pocket to see chiropractors and alternative practitioners. I’ve been doing that ever since. And 4 years ago I stopped going to allopathic doctors all together and haven’t had health insurance since then. I’m out of the system. My EMR won’t tell them much now ;).
