Tiger’s New Hidey-Hole; Matilda the Amaryllis Full Bloom in Darkness . . .

As of this morning, just as I was getting ready to go visit my nerve-damaged, paralyzed son Colin . . .

— P.S. I post daily on his caringbridge site, and often don’t have energy left over for this site. If you haven’t checked it out already, you might consider doing so. He is proving to be a remarkably resilient human who should have died from a dissected aorta, way back on August 16. I began posting daily on his journey a few weeks after that, and it’s been a nail-biter at times, with all who go there on a regular basis galvanized, empathic, and astonished. He has much to teach us.—

. . . this. See Tiger?

Give up?

It’s still only two days past Winter Solstice, and the longest, darkest night of the year, but Matilda loves blooming in the dark. Early this morning:

My amaryllis, Matilda, after bulging for what, ten days? bloomed overnight. Bloomed during the longest night of the year. Here she is at dawn.

Three hours later . . .

Also, at dawn, looking east/southeast over Green Acres gardens, where the sun is about to rise, shooting pink streamers along the horizon, matching Matilda’s glorious color . . .

Amaryllis symbolizes beauty and strength.

The color pink symbolizes love and compassion.

As the light begins to return,

may we stand in beauty and strength,

as we bloom into love and compassion

“To me, the most interesting question about human memory is why only certain events, rather than others, carry a charge. Where does the charge come from?” — AK, 1986, A Soul’s Journey
“At a party, many decades ago, a man whom I had just met burst out, in a tone of wonder: ‘You are the first continuously splitting schizophrenic I’ve ever met!’ I bowed low and responded, ‘Thank you!’”
