Yesterday, I was speaking with a dear friend who, like most of my friends in deep blue Bloomington Indiana, wants Kamala/Walz to “win.” As we discussed the situation, I found myself saying that, whatever happens, it won’t clear up for at least three months; that we’ll be fortunate if the entire drama (singularly unprecedented, as transit Pluto completes its first return to both its own cycle, and the birth of the U.S.) doesn’t degenerate into chaos — or worse.
[Especially, I will add today, if the Dems do manage to cheat enough to “win”; unlikely, given that their playbook hasn’t changed, and this time we’re on to their games. (Remembering how utterly shocked I was last time!) In that event, then I can only pray that the rural right isn’t so infuriated that it goes on a kinetic rampage.]
[And yeah, especially, I add again today, if the MAGA/MAHA folks do manage to “win,” which would drive the Dems utterly insane. I imagine another destructive Antifa “peaceful protest” this one ramped up a thousand-fold to include waiting cells of illegal terrorists . . . check this out . . .
. . . or worse, much worse. Use your imagination.]
In any case, whoever “wins” will be on the “other side’s” chopping block.
“This is not another four year election.”
My friend’s eyes widened; apparently, she hadn’t heard about the expected chaos before. She just hoped the election would swing Democratic: “If it does, I’ll reconnect my phone to the internet.”
Huh? I looked at this sweet woman who, like again, most of my friends, is vaxxed up the yin yang. Instantly, I was reminded of an alarming Steiner quote, and wanted to unearth this quote again, but where and how?
Hmmm . . . will this do? From just now on twitter/X . . .
Wow! Yesterday, after a few hours of still wanting the Steiner quote, there it was, again, on my twitter/X feed! Synchronicity!
She and I ended yesterday’s incipient altercation with my usual calming incantation: “Let’s just stay with what we have in common.” Ever since the covid con divided me from most of my friends, including most of my wonderful siblings, this remark always “works.” We go on, refusing to “cancel” each other. Thus, though this remark doesn’t prevent future altercations, it does submerge them inside our greater connection.
And what IS that connection?
Today, I came across another post that references the fact that neither RFK Jr or Tulsi Gabbard, despite their joining the Trump transition team, agree with him in all areas. That in fact, the three of them, amazingly enough, have agreed to disagree, thus showing us all, in the political realm, what is possible, if we “stay with what we have in common.”
Furthermore, Tulsi tells us more explicitly, in words, and via her calm, grounded, gentle manner, what that commonality is: LOVE.
Personally, I notice my conscious mind flipping back and forth between Steiner’s (deeply paranoid?) point of view and Tulsi’s perspective on human magnificence. Being all-too-human, capable of both moral and idiotic behavior, these dueling perspectives are, at this point in my long long life, BOTH continuously enlarging inside me.
And yet, overall,
I am internally directed
to hold the dynamic tension
of these powerful opposites.
May I continue to dwell
in the spacious presence
between them.
Amen.
