POST-FALL: eight hours in emergency care

February 18, 2024

Share this:

found a shirt that i could pull over splint this morning.

trouble pulling tight socks off last night.

took the opioid once, so far. CBD preferred.

when i slipped on invisible ice and fell,

sudden crystal clear awareness and gratitude.

it was not my right wrist – am right handed-

it was not my knee

it was not my hip

not my head

just my left wrist!

and though two bones fractured, one of them splintered

after doc straightened wrist

a ct scan showed all the little fragments aligned

exactly where they should be

so may not need surgery.

“At a party, many decades ago, a man whom I had just met burst out, in a tone of wonder: ‘You are the first continuously splitting schizophrenic I’ve ever met!’ I bowed low and responded, ‘Thank you!’”
