Came across this beautiful, intense, gentle to crackling performance of Kalinka, (the name means “red berry),” a Russian folk song, on youtube.

Just imagine! We human beings, even as small children, can express in utter, individual, disciplined abandon, while moving in concert with others. We can! Some do!

My Amaryllis, Matilda, as of two days ago

See Amaryllis post.

As you see here, Malilda is ahead of the others. However, when I unboxed her, she was white, already large, and bent over every which way, so much did her burgeoning self resist dark confinement. When planted, and placed in a sunny window, Matilda straightened up with two days, turned green on the third, and, as of two days ago, this! Since that time, it looks like nothing is happening, but you know damn well that she’s getting ready to burst into bloom.

As ever I bow to her, and Mother Nature’s mysterious regenerative capacity, as we await the darkest, holiest moment of the year, 10:27 pm EDT, December 21, 2023: Winter Solstice.

“To me, the most interesting question about human memory is why only certain events, rather than others, carry a charge. Where does the charge come from?” — AK, 1986, A Soul’s Journey
“At a party, many decades ago, a man whom I had just met burst out, in a tone of wonder: ‘You are the first continuously splitting schizophrenic I’ve ever met!’ I bowed low and responded, ‘Thank you!’”
