“EVISCERATION,” part 2: Somewhat calmed down today, however . . .

I noticed myself yesterday, feeling “shame” for having posted the piece on EVISCERATION. I was still running hot, too hot. On the other hand, that’s who I was then, and today, having done lots of humming since, my vagus nerve has calmed down.

Okay. Where are we? It’s still true that our small-home neighborhood and others are being invaded by the relentless forces of unrestricted capitalism. But my perspective has returned to what I’d call “normal,” ie., philosophical.

So, of course, I realize that, given our all-too-human nature, the dichotomy between selfishness and selflessness is forever engaged.

I’m no socialist, and yet it does seem to be that some form of government intervention (at a state level in Indiana) will be required to rebalance what is happening to our historic neighborhoods.

Especially when you think about what’s happening to youth these days. This generation can’t afford to get married and have children, given the prices of even small homes like those in Green Acres. Plus, their children, even if they could afford them, would be shuttled into expensive day care, so that both husband and wife can continue to work, to afford the payments on their “starter homes” in what’s known, correctly, as the “rat race.”

Looked on Zillow just now, and wow, the home just across from mine is now for sale . . . This one has been spruced up inside, and now sports three bedrooms with three baths. I wonder what the rents will be when the house sells, if it sells. A few years ago, I would have said, “Not likely at that price.” But who knows now. The financial/economic situation world-wide appears to be turning chaotic as it reaches extraordinary extremes (See below).

Gee, of course, I cannot help but think, “maybe it’s time to sell my own house.”

HELL NO!

So there you have it; multiple factors at work that make understanding our Green Acres predicament very complex, making my own post yesterday look foolish.

But is it ever foolish to let the stops out once in a while? To let both yourself and others know what you are feeling inside, how you are being torn apart emotionally — one side of me guiltily identifying with those whose “class,” and whose upbringing, is way “below” my own fortunate “upper middle class” background?

And notice how the middle class itself, appears to be hollowing out, leaving, if trends continue, the very rich and the very poor (like much of the rest of the world). As a static condition for each person?

Wait a minute. Here’s the wise Thomas Sowell on the subject:

One more caveat to put in this complex bucket: my own grandson, who recently graduated from college and is very techie/AI oriented, just landed a job with Palantir. Starting salary? $180,000.

Clearly, some in this upcoming generation are upending the human civilizational game. Let’s hope they can keep their wits about them, not to mention their ethical sense of right and wrong.

BTW, my grandson is such a determined runner that he just qualified for the Boston Marathon. Glad that he’s thoroughly anchored in his body. Hopefully, his body (his unconscious, itself a part of Mother Nature) will let him know what is appropriate and what not, as he travels his unique path through this life.

But of course, that’s just his crazy Grannie Annie speaking. She who is drenched so thoroughly in Jungian psychology.

”And you? My teacher looked up, his left eyebrow arched, pencil poised. 'I want to do a paper on the concept of time.’” I mumbled, timidly. 'Time?' He sniffed. “I wouldn’t touch the subject. Too difficult.” — AK, 1967
