80th Birthday Celebration: Four Day Retreat!

Puppy Shadow and I are going to take off tomorrow for a three-night stay at the lodge in Turkey Run State Park. It will take about 90 minutes to get there, and will be the first time I’ve been even mildly “on the road” since 2019!

Historic Indiana State Park inns allow dogs!

I’ve only visited his particular state park once, a long time ago, but remember it as being unusually full of tiny ecosystems, all of which have trails.

For about a month I debated: shall I bring computer and ipad along? (My phone is fine; not connected to internet). Or shall I do a screen fast. I decided the latter. And as I told son Colin, “I wonder how long it will take to stop being furious?!” He winced, called me “brave.”

Shadow and I will walk twice a day; I will eat at the inn; and while in the room, delve into the book I’m currently rereading, the 15th anniversary edition of NOT IN HIS IMAGE: Gnostic Vision, Sacred Ecology, and The Future of Belief, by John Lamb Lash. That, plus numerous old files of various kinds (mostly esoterica), that I want to look through again before either saving or discarding.

Oh, and will bring sage, a crystal, and a candle for an 80th birthday ceremony that I will conduct on my birthday, December 19, and include readings from Tarot, I Ching and Runes.

We leave early tomorrow, and return late on the Solstice.

Blog to resume December 22.
