I speak with a welcome visitor

Note: I just put up a new post on greenacresvillage.org, in case you’re interested.

A wonderful young woman, now 35, who lived here in our Green Acres Village ten years ago, came to visit me this morning on her way back to the town where she now lives after a weekend excursion in Bloomington. We sat on the front screened-in porch, and talked for quite awhile, ranging far and wide, and agreeing wholeheartedly that little moments between strangers, can yield wonders.

She had been worried about not getting enough human interaction in one of her day to day jobs, which is to watch at a supermarket while people do their own check-out. She expected the job to be boring, but it isn’t! Each time she goes to help someone who’s stuck, the two of them tend to briefly connect, in an authentic manner, with the customer being grateful for her help and she happy to be of help.

“You probably have these moments on your walks with your dog,” she said. Oh yes! Which prompted me to go on and on, how strangers, thanks to our dogs, for one glorious moment, tend to re-member our shared humanity.

We also talked about the amazing signs that nature gives us, or that our own bodies give us, when we need them most. Like, for example, I pointed out to her, the day a couple of months ago when twice within a couple of hours, a turkey buzzard, flying high above, dropped a load of shit on the top of my head! Huh? What are the odds?

The turkey vulture prompted me to finally look at and deal with the weird sore in back of my knee from a couple of days earlier, which, when I finally did, looked like a target, with radiating rings. In the center, oops! A tick bite!

Immediately, I had to turn my attention to healing my own body.

She, like myself, is utterly blown away that a turkey vulture would do that. Twice! Utterly astonished by how Nature teaches us, exactly the lesson we need to learn, and just when we need it.

”And you? My teacher looked up, his left eyebrow arched, pencil poised. 'I want to do a paper on the concept of time.’” I mumbled, timidly. 'Time?' He sniffed. “I wouldn’t touch the subject. Too difficult.” — AK, 1967
