I head out tomorrow, for a four day adventure. Driving to North Carolina with my daughter-in-law, Sue Cudmore, who arrives here by plane today. When I told her about this gathering on the phone a month or so ago, wishing I could attend, but not wanting to drive 8.5 hours . . . she instantly responded: “I want to go too!”
WOW. So wonderful that my own daughter-in-law wants to go with me. I never would have thought to ask her!

For me, this will be like coming home, to a part of myself that erupted from within, via a numinous dream that startled me awake, back in July 1989. That’s 37 years ago! The dream: of an enormous raven, standing on my shoulders, cawing, WAKE UP! IT’S TIME!
I tend to see myself as the one who unearthed the Crone archetype from her burial, long ago, in the collective unconscious. But of course, I’m not the only one. As usual, with any event or timeline destined to be culturally significant, many others awakened at the same time. That’s just the way it works! And I just happened to have the skills, time, and determination to ignite the crone movement. Via, at first, a magazine, Crone Chronicles: A Journal of Conscious Aging which ran for 12 years (one Jupiter cycle) and then, three years later, finding Shauna Adix, then director of the Women’s Center at the University of Utah, to begin the annual Crone Counsels, which ran for 30 years (one Saturn cycle). Now a new cohort is carrying on the tradition, with new energy, awakening us further to the wisdom that has been missing for so long. Notice, BTW: that this new beginning carries the Raven energy forward, thanks to the CAW initials for “Crone Awakening Wisdom”!
Two essays that give the flavor of my own Crone awakening:

THE CRONE CHRONICLES EXPERIMENT
What’s terrifically exciting to me is that Sue wanted to come! The mother of my grandchildren has now reached her own Crone stage; so good to be introducing another generation to this august Crone presence.
We leave tomorrow at 6 AM, hopefully to arrive by 2:30 PM. Back Sunday night. No posts here until Monday.
”And you? My teacher looked up, his left eyebrow arched, pencil poised. 'I want to do a paper on the concept of time.’” I mumbled, timidly. 'Time?' He sniffed. “I wouldn’t touch the subject. Too difficult.” — AK, 1967
