Summer Solstice Offerings — and beyond!

Today was Tuesday morning work party in Green Acres Permaculture Village. A few of us looked around at the surplus, and decided it’s time to begin to share this new summer’s bounty.

From there, I went out to my self-declared job of weeding the front corner beyond the fence — vines galore! all of them attempting to weave together what would like to remain apart!

About two hours later, I looked outside in the front, and saw podmate Joseph putting the finishing touches on what he and podmate Daniel had decided to do, put a small table out front with daily offerings, along with an unlocked and unsecured donation box.

The first three offerings? Garlic scapes, kale, and mugwort starts, with suggestions as to how to prepare them as food, or, with mugwort, where and why to plant.

I asked him to wait there while I run to get the ipad. He did.

As he says, it may take a few days for neighbors and others who walk by to get used to this idea. We’ll see how many would like to plant mugwort starts for future yield; we’ll see if they can be trusted with the donation box . . .

This new offerings table sits right next to our Little Free Library, which for the past five years has featured “strangers” continuously exchanging books and magazines. The gift economy at work! Here’s hoping for a happier, healthier world where folks with surplus of any kind are naturally moved to share with others. Mutual sharing and exchange. The way Nature does it. Weaving together what would like to remain apart.
