This morning’s “shopping spree” banishes USUAL SOURPUS SEASONAL ATTITUDE!

Most houses in this neighborhood sport minimal or no Halloween paraphernalia. Except for one, two corners south of me, where the student renters went all out, just as they did last year. Love it!

I had to back way way up to get the entire yard and what’s on it.

Notice the pumpkin head witch circle in the left hand corner, one of the witches fronting the white fence?

Here’s the circle,Cle up close.

Oh wow! I didn’t notice until today that one of the witches is veiled . . . Hmmm. . . . Clever comm!

Walking by the other day, as they were setting up one of their displays, I thanked them, saying they were doing it for the whole neighborhood!

Yes, and here we are again, another gorgeous fall day. This time I decided to begin to — erase? screen? cover up? — my usual cantankerous old lady attitude towards “the holidays” by going on an unusual “buying spree”. . . . decided to at least dress up the front porch a bit.

Arrived home with these.

Which I then proceeded to place on the front porch. At which point Tiger cat came outside immediately. What’s going on?

One of the mums is in nearly full bloom, but the other one has only barely bloomed. So I figure I’m good for awhile.

Did I want to carve the pumpkin first? Nah. Too much trouble, and too messy, and I’d probably do a lousy job.

But I will make pumpkin puree out of this $3.69 pumpkin from Aldi, to freeze in jars for soup all winter long.

Okay!

Thus did I manage to — dismiss? suppress? overwhelm? —  for the time being, my usual sour seasonal attitude.

”And you? My teacher looked up, his left eyebrow arched, pencil poised. 'I want to do a paper on the concept of time.’” I mumbled, timidly. 'Time?' He sniffed. “I wouldn’t touch the subject. Too difficult.” — AK, 1967
